About the Library
Mission and Goals
The mission and goals of the OLOM School Library are in
accordance with the standards and guidelines set forth in
Standards and Guidelines For
Library Media Programs In Louisiana Schools. Our mission is to
provide the resources and materials as well as instruction in their use, which will
support and enhance the instructional program of the school and serve the needs of the
school community. Our goal is to establish and maintain a collection with a wide
range of educational materials on all levels of difficulty, with diversity of appeal,
allowing for the presentation of many points of view.
Schedule
The library is open from 7:55 A.M. to
3:35 P.M. daily. Students may use the library before school, with
teacher permission, and during their regularly scheduled class
time. Students in 5-8 have a
flexible library schedule
visiting
the library as needed or when scheduled by the teacher or librarian.
Students in K-4 attend library class once a week. The librarian
visits the Pre-Kindergarten classes once a week for story time.
Policies and Procedures
Books are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed
twice. Magazines can be checked out for one week. Reference
materials may not be checked out. Students must return overdue books
before checking out another one. Overdue notices will be sent home
on a regular basis until the overdue book is returned. Overdue fines are
not charged. Damaged items should be returned immediately for
evaluation/repair. Library items lost or damaged beyond repair will be
billed.
